Santiago do Cacém is a small town. Part of its inhabitants, from the countryside around the town, live from agriculture, cork trees and cattle breeding, although industries and trade employ lots of people nowadays, mainly the ones who live in town.

The city has got a city hall, a court house, a small old hospital, a new hospital, a museum,a big public library and some green open spaces to spend free times.

Sines is 17 kms away from here to the sea shore.

It has got a fine beach and a big industrial and very important harbour where big ships unload coal which is burnt in the thermo-electric central to create electricity.

We also have petroquimic industries, between Sines and Santiago do Cacém, and big ships also unload oil for them.
